We made it! Pagosa Springs

Day 32

Date: 02.06.2022

CDT Mile: 846.9 Mile

Miles hiked: 5.1 miles / 8.1 km

Camping at: Airbnb Pagosa Springs

We started hiking around 7.20 am and the first 0.5 miles were really nice and snow free. I had the hope it will stay like this, but nope, it all changed again! At one point we were lost completely because we had to reroute so far away from trail due to the blowdowns, it took us about half an hour to find the trail again! It must have taken us 3 hrs for 2 bloody miles! But we eventually made it and got reunited with the K2's again, who were waiting for us. The last three miles down to the Wolf Creek Pass were easy and fast. The trail led us into the Pagosa ski area (which is supposed to be the ski area of Colorado with the most snow!) and we hiked on the skislopes to avoid the heavy blowdowns.

Once at the highway we tried to get a hitch into Pagosa Springs, which is about an hour drive. But no car stopped. Instead they waved and took pictured of us! I nearly already gave up hope when a small car drove by and stopped. The car was packed with mountaineering gear and driven by a young guy. We somehow managed to squeeze all 5 and the driver and our gear into the car. It was not comfortable but we reached Pagosa Springs 🤣 and headed straight to the next restaurant across the street, a pizza place😋 3 hrs later also Longstride arrived and by that time we booked a sweet Airbnb right in the middle of Town. Looking back we are all very happy we made it safe down here. The last few days have been a real adventure and at times quite frightening. We decided to take a zero here to recover and let some more snow melt for the next section.
