Unplanned Zero day in Augusta.
Day 133
Date: 11.09.2022
CDT Mile: Mile 2'743.8
Miles hiked: 0 miles / 0 km
Camping at: Wagon West Motel and RV Park, Augusta
Our plan is to get the boxes, eat breakfast and hike out early afternoon today. But trail life is not always plannable. Our boxes haven't been picked up at all from the post office (which is right next door!) and hence we have to wait till tomorrow, when the Post office is open again. This is super annoying, as it messes up our plans completely. We don't want to stay here another day, but it looks like we are forced to do so. At least we got the room for free for another night, as it is clearly their mistake to not having picked up our boxes as promised.
It is a super smoky day here in Augusta and not much to do. Finally, I have time to write and upload my blogs, call my family, check the situation with crossing into canada when reaching the boarder and even have a little nap in the afternoon. The canadian boarder, from where we would cross it, has been closed for about 2 years because of Covid. But it seems that hikers have now an option to hike into Canada. This change only happened about two weeks ago, which is amazing. We have to download an app and then call once we crossed the boarder at Waterton. Figuring it out took quite some time and also writing the blogs consumed much time. Because we hike big miles everyday, and also days are getting much shorter and colder, I simply don't get to write blogs on trail anymore. Hence, I have to write them when in town, but often time in towns is also scarce. So I spend my day talking to locals (internet only works in the bar and not in my room), writing blogs and relaxing. Still the hours pass by far to fast, and as we return from dinner we get a message from Piper and Duskman, who booked the last available room in the Motel for tonight. They just got here. Good news, glad to hear they made it through the snowstorm safe too and we will see each other again tomorrow!
Looking Good! Eric & Reger
