As today is town day and we have to hike less than 20 miles, we decided to sleep in, no alarm then. I only woke up around 8am, when the sun finally reached us in our ditch! Oh well, I didn't expect that I would sleep in that late! We got up and started our hike into town. The first about 10 miles we still hiked along dirt roads. Thanks god we left the red road quite soon and went back to the brown dirt roads, more like a trail again. We reached the rim lake recreation site, but there was only salt left on the lake ground, but no water anymore. It was hot out today. The last 5 or 6 miles we hiked along the highway, a pavement road. It was very windy, which slowed us down a little but also brought some refreshing cool wind. It's not a very busy highway, but rather hilly. After passing about 5 mellow hills we finally could see Rawlings. Hiking into Rawlings felt like hiking into a ghost town for me. We survived the first part of the Basin desert without seeing anyone except for the guy in the car, hiking on a highway, huge power lines next to us, into a town in the middle of nowhere. Why would you wanna live here? I don't know but I am super happy that people live here and we can get all the town amenities. We just arrive around lunch time and the thai restaurant I was dreaming of last night is our first stop. Food was good, especially for being out in nowhere. And not eating burgers or pizza is always a treat! I have some blisters and walking on the pavement is not the best. We book a room at a cheap motel close by (SwissChris is in the room next door!), wash the desert dirt off (shower!), handwash even our clothes and hike to the supermarket late in the day, which is 1.5 miles away to get resupply done. On our way back I just asked a girl on the parkinglot if she would give us a lift back. It's late and not many cars are still here. Apparently hitching is not allowed in Wyoming. Thanks god she is happy to give us the drive back (no UBER of Lift in this town!). Back in the room we order Sushi for dinner😁 food is delivered around 10pm. We turned on the TV and spread out the food on the bed. Food was super, super delicious and even if a bit more expensive than a burger, totally worth it every penny. I would order that food every day if I could! We ordered that much food that the guy from the restauran thought food was for 4 people🤣 But we are hungry hikers and half an hour later just about managed to eat it all! Tired and fully fed I fall into my bed and asleep.
