Made it to town!

Day 6

Date: 29.04.2022

CDT Mile: Mile 83.4

Miles hiked: 16.9 Miles \ 27 km

We sleep in again and only start hiking around 7am. We don't hike far today. Theoretically we could reach the town of Lordsburg today but we have decided to only get get there tomorrow and set camp shortly before town tonight. As such, we get to town early in the morning, have a full day of recovering and doing errands in town, and then can leave town the next day very early, while only paying one night at the hotel. The first about 25 miles out of Lordsburg are supposed to be one of the hottest on this trail. Very flat desert, not shade at all, very hot temperatures. Therefore, we plan to hike it very early in the morning, hopefully find some shade where we can wait out the heat again.

The next water source is in about 4 miles, which is nice as then we don't have to carry so much water. It's a water tank which we have to climb. While going to the toilet I realize in shock that my body is doing far to good and my women issues, which I never had on the PCT for nearly 6 months, are still intact out here. Damn it!

Water source no. 2 that day is a cattle trough again, but it's better than nothing. And in about 5 more miles there is a proper maintained water cache again, no. 5 and the last one in that stretch, just shortly before Lordsburg. The trail is easy and in no time we reach the last water cache. It's a very hot day and no shade in sight. We set up the rain fly (outer part of the tent without the mesh/inside) of 1+ and dogbite, but in there it's even hotter. We can't stand that heat and hence spontaneously decide to hike the last 3 miles to town today instead of only tomorrow. I arrive in Lordsburg around 4pm, get a room and shower. Ah how good that feels! Next thing is food. A table full of hikers we are, all craving for the same. We eat and chat till its late and long after hiker midnight I get back to my room.
