I had one of the best nights sleeping since a while and feel great today. We slept in, chatted to a bunch of Sobo hikers who hiked in last night late (they hiked 40 miles without stopping because the weather was so bad. Snow and hail and rain made the trail to a stream, it was super cold and it must have been a real bad experience for them). Then we got our resupply box at the post office and bought some additional snacks at the dollar store. It was already lunch time by the time we hit the road again. The first 4 miles the trail followed a paved road before turning away into a dirt road. The dirt road had big pools of water from the past week's storm, which we had to walk around, and that in the desert! Finally, the trail turned into a real trail and we stopped under a shade tree for a little break. 'Wanderer', who was just behind us, decided to stop with us and I pack out the Liter of wine I carried out of town. We emptied that bottle within the next 30 minutes, all feeling a little tipsy and I feel a little lighter too, as the 2 pounds of the wine are not in my pack anymore😁 We continued our hike together. It was a beautiful hike up and down along a ridge line with nice views down to the valley/desert. 15 miles in we stopped at the next water source, a natural spring in a small canyon and cooked dinner there too. The next water is in only 15 miles, which we will not reach anymore tonight. We hiked on a couple of more miles into an amazing sunset (I loooove desert sunrises and sunsets!) and found a beautiful camp spot on top of a ridgeline, surrounded by trees to give shelter from the wind. I don't know why but I am super tired (my backpack is quite heavy!), and therefore I hardly noticed when 'Recharge' hiked past us around 9pm. Apparently 'Recharge', 'Minty', 'Doc', 'All-in', 'Wanderer' and 'Tcuan' with her dog 'Copper' are all camped right behind us within a mile!
