Anaconda

Day 122

Date: 31.08.2022

CDT Mile: Mile 2'456.6

Miles hiked: 10.5 miles / 16.8 km

Camping at: Pintlers Hostel, Anaconda

We got up early, motivated to reach town soon and also leave the private property we camped on early enough. It was a 10.5 miles hike on the highway and on dirt roads, mostly flat. We hiked it in under 3 hrs, again flying down the road. As we passed a supermarket first, we celebrated our last days trail performance with a drinkšŸ˜ being a little tipsy (I haven't eaten yet anything) we hiked straight to the breakfast place a mile down the road, where I got a huge chicken-fried steak with gravy. I am super happy now! Fed and satisfied we moved over to the Pintlers Hostel, which has been highly recommended by many hikers. And there I run into Katka and Petr from the Czech Republic again, with whom I hiked the Gila River and seen last at the Toaster House in New Mexico. I thought they are far ahead of me and I will never see them again. A very pleasant surprise!

After that I am busy with town chores, as usual. Doing laundry, post office (I got some warmer clothes with me now), showering, uploading blogs, calling my family etc, etc, etc. Town days are often quite stressful for us hikers and not much relaxing. But the good food is always worth coming to town, next to be able to shower, do laundry, resupply and talk to family and friends.

I had a the 'special coffee of the week' at the breakfast place. It was more like a iced chocolate milk with rum and caramel. It didn't become me well, and I had a bad stomage all day from it. When we went for dinner at a bar, where they serve any steaks on that day for 12 dollars, I still wasn't feeling very hungry. But it is also important to eat many calories in town. Having had only breakfast today, I have to eat something for dinner. The bar was a small place and looking at it my expectations for the T-Bone steak I ordered were rather low. And it turned out I was right. The T-Bone was a very thin peace of meat, and even though I ordered it meadium rare, it came well done. Well, with such a thin peace of meat it would have been hard to cook it medium rare! But at least the taste was good and not being that hungry, I didn't mind that much. But it was definitely not the meat I was thinking of while hiking on trail the last two days... Soccermum ordered a huge pizza from the pizza restaurant down the road to take out for the hike. We picked up the pizza on our way back to the Hostel. Sitting outside the front door with some wine 'Stallion' hiked in. Stallion is a German hiker, I have met at the Toaster House in New Mexico too the last time. We enjoy the evening chatting, till it gets too cold and we get too tired - bedtime!
