Day 116: ⛺@ mile 1'679.3 - ⛺@ mile 1'708.2
Date: 01.08.2018 Miles hiked today: 28.9 Miles / 46.51 km Total Mileage: Mile 1'708.2
After going to bed early last night we managed to get out early this morning. It's 12.5 miles to go until we reach the Oregon boarder! The hike starts nice and gentle. The smoke is still here and once the sun rises it creates beautful sunbeams through the forest. Parmesan thinks we look like angels in that light! And that after spending a long time together! Haha!! We can hear helicopters. I assume there is a lake close by from where they get water to fight against a wild fire further away. That's kinda scary, as it means that the fire can't be that far away! Otherwise it's a rather boring hike this morning and I listen to potcasts to make the time running but it seems to do the opposite, time seems to pass very slowly and so do the miles! The last mile before the boarder is an uphill. And California kicks our ass for the last time. Finally around 10am we hit the boarder! There is a trail register and a sign on a tree indicating that you now hike on Oregon's land. Also a few fellow hikers are there. Most of us brought some wine, beer or other alcoholic drinks to celebrate this big milestones. I've hiked for more than 3 months and over 1'691 miles / 2'721 km to get here. That's crazy! We are all proud to be here and to made it that far. It has been beautiful but rough the last couple of weeks. Once we hiked the Sierras many hikers quit the trail and many other hikers hitched big sections and even missed the boarder. Oregon is supposed to flatten out, but it doesn't look like it for the first mile. It's the same uphill as in California. What's this?! A few miles later we stop for lunch under a tree with other hikers. Of course we also have our daily nap :) but we must go, Oregon is calling and we aim to hike 16.5 more miles before setting camp. Tomorrow we are going to Ashland, apparently one of the best towns along the PCT and we plan to be there before lunch. If we do more miles today that is easily possible and that keeps us motivated :) I reach camp and set up my tent before the sun sets. We are about 12 hikers here tonight. There is also a big shelter hut and some of us hikers decide to cowboy camp there. But I need my sleep and rather pitch my tent. Finally it's also much cooler in the evenings and mornings and I can sleep much better again. Tomorrow its town time again baby!!!
Wonderful sunbeams created by the sun (obviously!) And the smoke
Apparently we look like angels:)
Funny moss on the trees
Yeha, finally reached the boarder!
Just a little dirty! It's about time for a shower and a laundry!
And here goes another 100 miles! (And I didn't miss that mile marker - for once!)
Oregon looks different already. So beautiful.
