Day 104: ⛺@ mile 1'410.8 - Clark Spring
Date: 20.07.2018 Miles hiked today: 26 miles / 41.84 km Total Mileage: Mile 1'436.8
We are only 6 miles from the famous Burney Falls, so that's where we hike to this morning. They are right next to the trail too, so it's not a big detour for us, which is nice. I'm there around 8am and first thing is to pick up the box my mum has send me. I wonder what is in there! I'm really lucky, the shop has no power today (actually the whole town is off power due to some street works and the main power supply must have been cut of by mistake!), so that it closes it's door right when I'm out! Mmh what's in that box now, it's quite heavy? I hope loads of good Swiss chocolate! So I have 500 gr. M&M's (so heavy!), 8 snickers (really?! Where is the nice Swiss chocolate i can't buy here?!), Some ovomaltine bars (thanks that's great), a pair of merino underpants (xs, my ass doesn't fit in it yet mum, I've not lost that much weight yet!), one big Swiss chocolate (finally, that's what I was hoping for, but only one?!), 500 gr. Condensed Banana (not sure what I should do with it...), chewing gums (anyone interested?), energy tablets (anyone else wants them?), dried mangos (that's good and super light), ox tail soup (whatever) and Darvida crackers (ok that's fine). I'm such a bad daughter, there I receive a parcel from my mum but I'm rather a little disappointed. I hoped for a box full of lindt chocolate and I get so many things which are nice but not that suitable for hiking or which i could buy here too. I now know what is good for hiking but it's hard for outstanding people to know that too. I sometimes forget about it. Now I have to carry this 3 or 4 kg of extra food and it's an uphill climb right now! Oh now, my food bag doesn't even close anymore and my backpack is so heavy! Well I gotta deal with this right now! But mum thank you so much, it was still wonderful to receive a box! So we pack up and check out the burney falls. I have seen many waterfalls already and my expectations are rather low. I'm wrong, the burney falls are amazing and beautiful and worth to go and see it. But now it's time to hit the trail. It's 10 am and already very hot but luckily there is a river coming up and apparently it's a nice spot below the bridge with some shade. Perfect timing, we arrive there shortly after 12, sweaty and dirty from the uphill hike. We are not the only ones there and squeeze all together because the shade is rather rare! Also Sausage and Blue Man are here but dirty money has left already. We jump into the cold but refreshing river before we have lunch and feel much better again. As it is too hot to hike on we have a nap for more than an hour and only get back on trail at 3:20pm. Our plan is to hike 16 more miles! We rather keep going to arrive at the camp before dark! The uphill hike is gentle and thank goodness mostly in the forest and hence in the shade, but my backpack is heavy and my shoulders hurt a lot. the higher up we climb the nicer the tempratures become. But it's getting very wild now, sometimes the trail can hardly be seen because of all the bushes hiding it. I feel like in the Amazonas are so trying to get my way through the bushes :) I finally reach the camp shortly before it gets dark. And there is Dirty Money as well, how nice to see her again! We cook dinner while it's getting dark and soon later sneak in our tents. We wanna get up early tomorrow to hike another big mile day! I'm so tired I'm just thinking of a good night sleep.
Finally Canada is closer than Mexico!
Beautiful Burney falls
Somewhere here is the trail!
Ah here it is, I'm standing in the middle of it!
