Day 89: Nearo in South Lake Tahoe - Lake Aloha6
Date: 05.07.2018 Miles hiked today: 9.1 miles Total mileage: mile 1'098.7 I had a hard time falling asleep last night because we were all squeezed so tight next to each other to all fit on the groundsheet! But late at night eventually I felt asleep. And I didn't get up till 8am. Joannes mum, Dad and Peter are already preparing breakfast burritos, fresh fruit and pancakes. These were definitively the best breakfast burritos i had so far! Today we are going to return to the trail and continue our hike. We still have to buy our resupplies and I also want to send a box forward to sierra city as I've heard food selection is poor there. Joanne and Irene have most of their food already as Irene brought it with her. They are spreading out all food and backpack gear on the table to check what to bring along and what to forward or send back home. I have nothing really to do so I watch and enjoy the morning. At 11am we leave the campground, we are good in time. But I still have to buy all my resupplies and because I'm about the only one I hurry up. It turns out I have bought far too much food. My backpack is really heavy and that annoys me a lot. My food bag is about 7kg for 4.5 days only! It hurts my shoulders as some parts of the backpack stick right onto my shoulderblades. And that results in me being a much slower hiker. How shall I now do 25 to 30 miles?! I just have to eat a lot of food to make my backpack lighter! But after nearly 4 days in South Lake Tahoe with delicious food I'm feeling stuffed right now. Hope I'm hungry for dinner again! We start hiking slightly before 4pm. We actually planned to hike 10 miles today but I don't think we will make it. Irene is joining us from here and as it is her first day we will be a little slower. But that's fine. After 2.7 miles we reach Echo Lame. It's a beautiful lake and the hike along it's shore is so too. The uphills are nice and gently again, how i like them :) but they are very rocky, so you have to watch your steps. I await Irene and Joanne and we plan to hike till Aloha lake. That are actually 9 miles which is very good for starting that late and having a first day hiker with us. While hiking on I leave some messages for Irene and Joanne on the ground. Finally, I reach Lake Aloha and it is an absolutley stunning Lake, I would say the most beautiful I've seen so far on trail. There are many little rocky islands and some old tree bunks stick horizontally out of Lake. Also other PCT hikers have decided to stay here and enjoy this absolutley beautiful spot. I look for suitable Tentsites and start getting ready to stay here for the night. A little later also Joanne, Irene and Giggles arrive. While we eat dinner the sun sets and its absolutley stunning. It's a little windy, which is good cause it keeps to moskitos away and it also makes beautiful clouds which are coloured in pink and orange from the sun set. This is one of my favourite evenings here.
