Day 71: 10th 0 day in Mammoth Lakes
Day: 17.06.2018 Miles hiked today: 0 miles Total Mileage: mile 906.7
I get up around 7am while everyone else is still asleep and start to work on my blogs. I still have pizza left over from last night, so that's my yummie breakfast. Next thing on the to do list is to wash clothes. There is a laundromat available in the hotel. That makes washing much easier. I did pre-wash my socks by hand but nothing else and when washing is done my clothes come out still dirty! Well at least they smell better now, that must do! In the meantime Flash texts me that he is in Mammoth Lakes as well! I totally forgot it was his birthday two days ago! Bummer, I haven't got anything I could gift him. He's coming by in a minute. While he is clearing out and re-organises his backpack I remember my new hat I bought where Yosemite Valley is printed on. I love this hat but it seems to be a little big on me. While flashes hat looks old and hast lost colour. Perfect, he is just trying on the hat and fits him perfectly. That's my birthday present for him then! We also planned to go to the movie theatre today. The movie "ocean 8" is on. Never heard of it but that's fine. Movie starts at 1:15pm, which suits us perfectly. We just checked out and sit in the hotel lobby when trashqueen walks in with her aunt and uncle, who came to visit her and prepared for trail magic! Steaks, watermelon and home made bread is being packed out in the Hotel lobby! What a treat! But hey we gotta leave now, movie starts soon! So we head to the movies theater, I get a big busket of butter popcorn and enjoy the movie. It's not the best one but it's fun and entertaining and totally worth it! As I have promised to cook Swiss mac and cheese tonight at the hostel, I need to go shopping. I'm all excited and a little nervous about it! I buy all the Swiss cheese they offer, 3 big onions, bacon, cream and the pasta. Initially there were about 10 people but now Hauser and Flash left already in the morning and Joanne and Giggles spontaneously decided to go back to the trail tonight. But Noodles and Tank are happily joining:) Fully packed Peter and I walk in direction to the hostel, but it's on the other side of the town. I can't walk that far with my backpack on and the shopping bags in my hands. Luckily me again, there is a car pulling out of a car park and I take the chance to ask if he would give us a lift to the hostel. Sure he does, jump in! Great! Noodles and Tank arrive on time to help me cooking with their hands full of beer. That will help while cooking:) While Noodles is cutting the onions, Tanks is cutting the cheese and I cut the bacon. All that cutting is done pretty fast with that great help and I start with cooking the onions in butter. That's gonna take a long time, but I love onions and there can't be to many onions in the Swiss mac and cheese (Älplermagrone) for me! :) it takes me like 1:30 hrs to get food ready, a biiig pot, I cooked for about 12 people or more but I know that we are all hungry hikers! So there was Peter, Philly, Jason, Noodles, Tanks, and English guy I don't know his name and me. And really we only left a very small plate of food, which I can have for breakfast tomorrow. I can hardly believe it but that means that food was tasty right? With a belly full of food and beer I'm sure sleeping like a stone tonight :) Note: after dinner we chat and Noodles tells us that if he gets cold at night he pees in an empty water bottle. As pee is warm he uses it as a warm water bottle. So far so fine. But then, he would rinse out the bottle with water the next morning and use it as a drinking water bottle during the day!!! The same bottle he peed in the night before! Well, not sure about that, for sure I'm not gonna ask him for water 😂
Note 2: I was so busy all day and cooking dinner I didn't even take one single picture...
