Day 62: Bishop - ⛺ @ mile 788.7
Date: 08.06.2018
Miles hiked: 7.5 miles Total Mileage: Mile 788.7 After a bad night sleep dreaming of our uphill hike from the onion valley campground back to the PCT I only left bed shortly after 8:30am. I dreamed that we left Bishop too late, that the uphill hike was awful because it's a steep trail and we have fully loaded backpacks worth with 7 days of food. I remember the trail over Kearsage pass as long and hard when we hiked it in order to get to Bishop. But then also we hiked this section after already hiking Forester pass, the highest pass on the PCT. We hiked for more than 12 hours that day, climbing many meters in elevation and hiking for 22 miles in high altitude. No wonder we were tired! Still, I am not looking forward to today. Steve, the guy who already gave us a lift to Independence that day we arrived at the onion valley campground offered us a ride back from Bishop. That's awesome as Bishop is about 40 miles from Independence, from where you drive another 20-30 minutes up to the onion valley campground. We don't want to leave Bishop too late so we agreed on 1:30pm. I filled the morning with packing, re-organising my backpack, stuff my food into the bear canister, shower and writing a blog. Sadly, I could not upload a blog this morning as the wifi was so bad and would not allow me to do so. I tried all morning. Around noon Steve called. We asked if Philly could also join us when he drives us back. Apparently he also offered some other hikers a lift and the car is full now. But he could drive us up now, including Philly, if we are ready. Luckily we are just about ready. I got a burger from Mc Donalds opposite from our hotel so I can eat lunch in the car and off we go. All of us are tired and really really not looking forward to our upcoming uphill hike to kearsage pass. Its a 4.4 miles uphill hike where we climb about 830 meters to reach the top of kearsage pass (3'584 hm). Then it's a 2.6 mile downhill hike where the bulldog lake trail rejoins the PCT. The hike is beautiful as we pass many lakes. If it only wouldn't be that steep. But actually the 4.4 miles went by pretty fast. And the trail was worse in our memories than in reality (that doesn't mean that I wanna do it again though!). I'm happy to be back on the PCT. Tomorrow we have 2.4 steep miles to climb Glen Pass, but at least that are PCT miles which bring us closer to Canada.
Up to Kearsage Pass again!
