Day 49: 5th 0 Day in Kennedy Meadows
Day: 26.05.2018 Miles hiked today: 0 miles Total Mileage: Mile 700.4
We will stay in Kennedy Meadows for the next couple of days. First, we await the siblings of Joanne to join and second there also seems to be quite a lot of snow in the sierra which makes it very hard to impossible to hike. So we are going to try and hike on Tuesday and check the conditions. Most likely we then will stopp at Lone Pine before hiking Mount Withney, the highest mountain in the USA apart from Alaska. Mount Whitney is 4'421 meters high!
So this is a typical town day with washing clothes, taking a shower, shop resupplies etc. Yogi, a famous women for PCT hikers, has opened an outfitter here his year. Yogi has written a book for PCT hikers filled with information and tips. The book is often referred to as THE BIBLE for us hikers. So while I am shopping there suddenly the door opens and a girl is calling my real name (not my trail name). Who the heck I know here speaks Swiss German and calls me by my real name??! It's Tanja, another Swiss girl who started much later than we did but catched up now and she knows me from the PCT Swiss WhatsApp group we have! She got a ride here and left her phone and wallet on the back seat of their car. She can't remember the car nor does she know their names or anything else. I remember when I have left my phone in a car and how miserable I felt then. So I quickly wrote a message on the PCT Facebook page while she returned to the street trying to find the car! A couple of hours later I met her again. She did find the car again and got her phone and wallet back. But she is still totally agitated about all that stress. Take a beer and relax :)
Memorial day is on Monday but here they decided to celebrate it today which is great. There is a live band playing all afternoon and on the BBQ grill pulled pork is getting ready for us - yummi! We sit outside all afternoon, chatting, listening to the band and drinking beer. Feels like being on vacation, totally relaxed. That's how we spend the afternoon and evening until it was time to go to bed.
