Day 37: Hiker Town - ⛺ @ mile 545.1
Day: 14.05.2018 Miles hiked today: 27.6 miles Total Mileage: Mile 545.1
Ahw the alarm clock started far too early!! 3:15am but we want to get up early to avoid the heat of the Mojave desert. Today is also another highlight of the desert section. We are going to walk on the LA aquatduct! So our plan is to hike the first 17 miles before lunch. There is a bridge where we want to rest in the shade and rest till the temperature allows us to hike on. Plus there is the first water again. The stars are beautiful and nearly provided enough light to hike. But it's still more comfortable with our headlamps on for the first couple of miles. It's all flat for a change till the bridge. The LA Aquaduct pipeline is fun to walk on and even nicer with the sun rise. It's simply beautiful with all the Joshua Trees and the colours of the sun rise. The rest of the strech however was rather boring. All flat along the street in direction of the big wind mills and hills. Most of us hikers had the same idea and started hiking early so we all met below the bridge again. The bridge was also host to a owl couple with its owl baby who were carefully checking on us. We are very lucky with the weather. Also today the heat was doable and it could have been much worth. So we continued hiking again at 2 pm. Now it's uphill but the next water source is 6.5 miles away. That's also were most hikers camped tonight but we decided to hike on for 3.5 miles to the next camp spot which also shall have water and is a little closer to Tehachapi, our goal for tomorrow. Its still a 21 miles hike but the sooner we are in Tehachapi the better!
Mr. Freeze napping at the lunch break! It's cold in the desert in the shade with the wind!!
