Day 30: ⛺ @ mile 415 - ⛺@ mile 436

Day: 07.05.2018

Miles hiked today: 21 miles Total Mileage: Mile 436

As the water sources are limited and the temperatures are getting hotter and hotter the lower altitude we hike, we want to hike in the cooler mornings. There is supposed to be water at the fire station 4.5 miles ahead of our camp site. We filled up our water bottles there which must be enough for the whole day and kept on hiking after heaving had breakfast there too. There is a uphill climb, not to steep and not too long but at 9am it was already that hot that my sweat was dripping! After that uphill we looked for some shade below some bushes, which was not that easy to find at all! A next uphill climb is ahead of us. After that short break in the shade I felt my energy coming back and I run up that hill in one time, without breaking! If it would be like this all the time, that would be great. We had lunch up that hill, but it was that hot that none of us really fancied eating loads. We looked for some shade from trees back down the trail and took some time to rest and cool down. Our camp for tonight is a ranch station where. When we arrived there water was just being filled up by the rancher and there was a cooling box with ice cold sodas in it. That's just what we needed and we dropped our backpacks right there to stop and enjoy the cool drinks. It looks like a really nice place and we decided to try out cowboy camping (without a tent). Joanne and me could persuade Kermit to also try it out, as she was fearing it a little. She could sleep in the middle in between Joanne and me, so the animals would first attack us :) We heard many scary stories about spiders, scorpions and snakes being on someone's body after waking up while cowboy camping. So not sure how well I will sleep tonight :)
