Day 28: Mount Baden Powell - ⛺@ Mile 395
Day: 05.05.2018 Miles hiked today: 22 miles Total Mileage: Mile 395
We actually planned to watch the sunrise on the top of Mount Baden Powell. But we just couldn't roll out of our sleeping back after our late arrival last night. We hit the trail around 7am and it took me about 30 minutes to hike the first mile. That was the longest it ever took me to hike one single mile! But the view was absolutely worth it! It was an unusually clear day and we could spot downtown of L.A.! How crazy us that?! I didn't know we are that close to L.A.! But soon later I would notice that we indeed are very close to L.A. Because it being a weekend many day hikers passed us all day. Which was kind of weird and a little annoying. There goes our "wilderness". It was also not my best day today. Only a few days later I would find out that I kind of struggle for the next couple of days too. Miles wouldn't pass by, it took forever for every single mile to hike. How shall we hike our 22 miles today to camp?! On Mount Baden Powell we had breakfast and thereafter moved on. It was a steep downhill for 8 miles to a parking lot. We stopped every now and then and decided to have lunch 2.5 miles before the parking lot where there was am official camp site with picnic tables. We stayed there for a while, even napping before moving to the parking lot. Only 2.5 miles later we stopped there again, were we got some cold coke, bananas and donuts. We really moved slowly today. The next uphill to Mount Williamson was steep again and so was the downhill on the other side! Kermit left a couple od minutes earlier from the parking lot but we couldn't see her anywhere anymore. So we moved on. Joanne got really tired and wanted to pitch tent, but I wanted to meet with Kermit as we agreed to stay at a Ski-house tonight (A hiker has informed us to go there, some trailangeling is going on and hikers are allowed to stay the night in the ski-hut, where there shall be warm food and drinks! Sounds amazing!). We hiked on, both of us are tired as it also already passed 5pm. There was a note hanging on a tree about the ski hut, but neither Joanne nor me took a picture of it. Kermit was not in sight and I was a little worried. Well, the day did not really get better. Of course we could not find the ski hut and we camped at a big camp site with some boy scouts (making a lot of noise). But it was nearly 8pm and I could not set any foot in front of the other anymore today. I just want to crawl into my sleeping bag and fall asleep. We did ask ever hiker passing us for Kermit. Some remembered to see her, others didn't. Hopefully we will see her tomorrow again and I do hope she is at the ski hut tonight (No reception didn't help to find us).
