Day 27: Wrightwood - Mount Baden Powell
Day: 04.05.2018 Miles hiked today: 22 miles Total Mileage: Mile 369
After we arrived late last night in wrightwood, todat we wanted to relax a little, resupply and enjoy the little place. We had pizza from last night for breakfast in our bed - Hikertrash !, showered and washed our cloths. Shortly before lunch we managed to drive to town. We got our bounce box from the post office first. Joanne is looking for some new shoes as hers wripped off on both sides. The sports store there however offered very little choice. We heard from other hikers that a trailangel offers his car to drive to REI which is about 45 mins away by car. Wrightwood is very small but very hiker friendly and many trail angels which offer space to sleep, cars etc. for us. So Joanne and Kermit (Rahel) decided to drive to REI. In the meantime I would send off another bounce box to Tehachapi, pack my backpack and relax. It took them a long time to come back. Shortly after 5pm they finally arrived. And they still have to pack their bags and resupplies too. Joanne however got her new shoes which she needs to hike on. Finally, we managed to be back on trail by 7pm. Muuuuch later than we hoped for. We hiked 7.5 miles (2 of them up Mount Baden Powell) and pitched our tents shortly before 10pm and 1.4 miles before the top of Mount Baden Powell. This was our first night hike and I actually quite liked it. The sunset was amazing! And then it was dark but the temperature was absolutely perfect. Also because of it being dark one can't see the steep trail up to Mount Baden Powell and you just hike on. I think I would have needed many more breaks and much more motivation to hike and carry my newly resupplied and heavy backpack up there in the light! This also is our latest bedtime since we are on trail (normally between 7-9pm we go to bed).
