Day 23: Tent Site @ mile 294 - Deep Creek Hot Springs

Day: 30.04.2018

Miles hiked today: 13 miles Total Mileage: Mile 308

We slept in Today till 6am as our goal of today is the 13 miles away Deep Creek Hot Springs. We had breakfast 4.4 miles after we started hiking at a picnic area. And guess what, we even had reception! So I checked my messages and called home where apparently the nerves where not so calm anymore after not hearing from me for a while. But all good on my front, nothing to worry about. After breakfast we hiked along the canyon until we finally reached the Deep Creek Hot Springs. We also passed the 309mile marker this afternoon! It was a beautiful hike but it took forever. We planned to be at the hot Springs earlier on the day and then just relax and enjoy and stay there for the night. We reached the hot Springs around 3pm. So still plenty of Time to relax and enjoy the hot Springs. However, all of us were negatively suprised on how trashy this wonderful spot was. Apparently, the Deep creek are a famous weekend escape for people from LA and surroundings. We are there on a monday but there were still plenty of people and many dogs. I cant imagine how it looks like on weekends! Trash laying around everywhere, this is so a-typicall to PCT hikers as we strictly follow the leave no trace Philosophy. Still, the hot springs were wonderful and a really good treat for our bodies! Tomorrow we plan to start hiking before 6am to escape the heat and to make it a big miles day (22 miles planned).
