Day 13: Fobes Ranch Trail - Idyllwild
Date: 20.04.2018
Miles hiked today: +/- 16 miles
Total Mileage: 178.00
It WAS freezing tonight but we all stayed warm sharing one tent. This is the most important. I cant really say that I have slept well though but I guess I did get some hours sleep. It was very windy and the tent wall kept on slapping my face. I moved more into the center of the tent so the tent wall couldnt reach my face anymore making space in the tent even more rare!
The tent wall inside (condensation) and outside were covered in ice in the morning. Also the ground outside was frosty. However the wind stopped and the sun was just about to rise. At 7am we took off. In 1.9 miles we did 1900 feet, the trail was very steep. Due to the fire closure the PCT Trail ahead was closed and we had to take and alternative route to Idyllwild. It was a long and not so scenic route as we are used to from the PCT. Around 3.30pm we made our way to Idyllwild. The best place I have seen so far along the pct. We dropped our backpacks and walked into the first Restaurant along the way, a pizza place! Next Stopp was the post office where we picked up our boxes we forwarded from Warner Springs. Also REI has send a new fully working stove for Joanne as one part was missing making it impossible to use it. So finally each of us will have their own stove!
At the Paradise Valley cafe we were asked if we would like to stay with some other hikers at a cabin in Idyllwild. Due to it being a weekend everything else was fully booked. They managed to get a cabin for 10 People. The cabin turned out to be amazing. Also only having one shower it all worked perfectly. The House looked like the dwarfes and the snowwhites' House. I Love it! We got free Shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, washmashines and driers! This is the first time I was able to was my cloths in a washing Maschine!
At night all of us went to an italian Restaurant where the Food was actually really nice (Americans are not very well know to cook nice pasta) but the portions rather small (Also not typically american). Some of us moved on to a bar whilst most hikers headed back Home. I wonder why I landed in the bar and not in bed after Dinner! :) having drunk two Glasses of red wine at the restaurant I could already feel the alcohol. But one more for the road shall be fine.
I had the best night sleep for a looong Time! :)
