Day 11: Tent Site @ mile 134.8 - Paradise Valley Cafe
Date: 18.04.2017
Miles hiked today: 17 miles
Total Mileage: 151.8
Again my alarm clock didn't go off this morning. I don't know if I delete it while sleeping or what's going on. We got up at 6am again and started to hike at 7am. There is a little tiny creek two miles ahead were we want to refill our bottles. The creek is a little of trail down a very steep little trail. The water tastes disgusting even after filtering but if you add some flavours (ice tea or hydrolites) it's drinkable. The next water supply is 8 miles ahead and it's going to be a very hot day. After the 20 miles hike yesterday we both struggle today and make many little breaks. At the water cache 8 miles ahead provided by the trailangel mike we noticed that we didn't need to get the extra water at the creek before because we would have just enough to get there. That kind of sucks. Also the water cache provides nice, clean and refreshing water. And there was a note that 2.5 miles ahead there is another water cache provided by trailangel Mary! As we are still struggling and it is mostly uphill (and steep uphill for the pct) it was a pleasure to see that at Mary's there was a little shower (used it to cool down my feed), a toilet and a shadowed picnic area. My knee started to hurt as of today and I've noticed that the left knee is a little swollen. Also my Achilles started to hurt and I am worried. I do hope it does not become worse so I do not need to take a lot of zero days (zero days =you do not hike any miles) in idyllwild. We plan to take 1 zero day there and i hope that is enough. At Mary's picnic area we refilled our body with food and water and Mary itself even turned up bringing ice cold water and some ice cold flavours water. What a treat! She also told us some interesting stories. At 2.40pm we took off again. Feeling better after having eaten but my body still hurts. However, it's only 6.5 Miles ahead to get to the paradise valley cafe were we are looking forward to some burgers, milkshakes etc. Oh and we just passed mile 150 too!
We made it there by 4.20pm. The Burger was amazing. I Shared a Double meat burger with Joanne and ordered coke and chocolate milkshake to it. About 7 of us hikers decided to stay there for the night so we can enjoy the breakfast there too the next morning. We were alowed to stay in there ground for the night. Other hikers decided to move on and others will skip the section and take a ride to idyllwild. The weather forecast looks horrible for tonight and tomorrow. Rain, Snow, Wind - really cold weather! Lets see how it turns out tomorrow.
