Day 3: Camp Spot  - Mount Laguna

Day: 10.04.2018

Miles hiked today: 13.9 miles Hike (without off Trail Hike miles to Mount Laguna - otherwise 16.4 miles)

Total Mileage: Mile 41.4

We got up really early this morning and started to hike already at 6.45 am. We wanna reach Mount Laguna today which his a big uphill climb (+1'000 hm) and again about a 15 miles hike. Additionally, a hot day has been forecasted. The trail started climbing uphill straight away. But so far I have experience that the evaluation changes are rather smooth and nice to hike rather than very steep and long (which I am more used from the swiss alps). However, I really enjoy this! The landscape was beautiful as always. Around lunch time the temperature climbed up to 30 Degrees Celsius and we had an uphill climb without much shade in front of us. Joanne run off again and we hiked it in no time. In the sun it was getting very hot now and we made a long break (1hrs 20 min) to relax and eat. As we didn't have much water left (we dry camped = camp spot without water source close by) we hiked a little further were there was a beautiful cold and clear water creek just a little of the trail. We cameled up (drink as much water as you can while you are at the water source) and got back on the trail. Only a little later the little creek crossed our trail. We used this opportunity to dip our feed into the cold water - what a feeling! As Joanne had to pick up a parcel at Mount Laguna Post office (which closes at 4pm) we again run the about 4 miles to make it in time. However, when we nearly arrived there we have received a wrong direction advice and instead of turning right on the main street we took a left. After walking for about 20 minutes I stopped a car and asked for the direction of Mount Laguna. There, we found out we are walking in the wrong direction! I assume they guy in the car saw our desperate faces and offered us a lift. We gratefully accepted it (my first ride in the open back of a Van, bud sadly my phone stopped working about 15 minutes before and I couldn't take a picture) and made it to Mount Laguna just in time! After all this hassle we have earned to pamper ourselves and rented a cabin - with a shower and a bed, what a treat!!! We even washed all our cloths in the shower and you can't believe how dirty the water was! Feeling fully refreshed again we felt into bed and didn't move until the next morning.
